Description
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Nashville Soccer Club and Nobody Trashes Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) litter prevention campaign, picked up nearly 300 pounds of litter on the streets surrounding Geodis Park on Thursday.
Players from Nashville SC participated in the event as part of the organization’s Greener Goals initiative.
According to a news release, there are more than 88 million pieces of litter on Tennessee’s public roads at any given time. This number is down from 100 million in 2016 as indicated in TDOT’s 2022 Visible Litter Study. TDOT spends more than $23 million annually on litter pickup and prevention, funded by revenue from a tax on soft drinks and malt beverages.
Throughout the year, Nobody Trashes Tennessee partners with organizations like Nashville SC on cleanup events across the state.
“We are thrilled to partner with Nashville SC again this year and hope that it inspires others to get involved in litter prevention and cleanup in their own communities,” said Brittany Morris, TDOT Transportation program supervisor, in a news release.
